Switching Back

Yep... I'm switching back to Java 1.3 from 1.4. Once Kate turned me on to the fact that Mac OSX is still using 1.3 and there's not a real timeline yet for 1.4 to be available, I decided to back-track and write my projects using the JDK 1.3.1.

I think in general 1.3 is the standard and will be for a long time to come. Having bopped back and forth countless times now, I'm very frustrated at how many things that 1.4 breaks and how little it's been adopted. At first I was going to develop the Journal as a sort of 1.4 learning experience, but I decided that it was no fun writing code that no was going to use.

Sun really screwed the pooch on this release. I'm convinced that it's going to do more damage to Java franchise than good. It's been out for a year now and the adoption rate, based on my guesstimate, is damn low. Is anyone reading this using 1.4 in daily coding? If so drop me a comment... I'm curious. Actually, I'm going to go over to JavaLobby to see if this subject has come up before, and if it hasn't I'm going to propose it...
