As fate would have it...

Marc Canter has quite the story of intrigue, corruption and trickery on his blog today. It's a pretty wild story. First start with this San Francisco Chronicle piece about a con man named Frank Garza who was a one-time partner of Marc's, then read Marc's post today and his autobiography chapter about his time in Trieste Italy trying to help create a Digital City. It's all very incredible...

The thing that trips me out was that I was wandering around the streets of Trieste with my backpack during July of 1998 and had no idea that the ground under my feet was wired to overflowing with fiber optic cable. On a far edge of Western Europe in the North Eastern part of Italy bordering Slovenia, I figured I was as far away from the digital center in Silicon Valley as you could get.

Amusing.
