More about Feeds
My tweak last night got me thinking about Feeds. There's so many different types of feeds one can provide now that it's nuts. Sometimes I see sites (like Joi's) with 4 or 5 options like:
- Blog Feed (Summary)
- Blog Feed (Full Posts)
- Blog Feed (Full Posts plus Comments)
- Comment Feed
- Blog Feed (By Category)
- Moblog Feed
And more. If you then multiply these by the various feed versions (RSS .91, .92, 1.0, 2.0, NewFeedFormatProject) it gets ridiculous. Then if you add the "auto-add" urls like for Radio or Amphetadesk and it's crazy. I wonder if there's a sane way of doing this.
By the way, here's my idea for naming of Pie/Echo/Atom/etc.: An Element Name! Yeah, think about Tungsten, Iridium, or the other recent names copied right from the periodic table. Here's a link the periodic table with names. Some good choices:
- Osmium
- Technetium
- Holmium
- Argon
- Zinc
- Promethium
You get the idea. I don't *care* if these domains are taken or some shitty little company has a trademark on them already. People on the Wiki don't have the slightest clue how trademarks work anyways.
