SpamAssassin 3.0

image

I upgraded to SpamAssassin 3.0 the other day (it was really arduous... "apt-get install -t unstable spamassassin" hehehe) but I really don't see much of a difference yet. Maybe I have to go explore some of the options, but I'm still getting 30 pieces of spam a day that passes through SA into my client which Thunderbird then has to clean up.

Now, I've been training SA like a good little dobee. I'm using IMAP so anything that Thunderbird tags as spam (and it does a pretty great job of it) gets thrown into the Junk folder (which sits on my server) and then I run "sa-learn --spam --mbox Junk" so that SpamAssassin can learn. It seems to be awefully stupid. Because after several months of this, it still passes through spam to my client. I want it to be much better job as I want to read my email on my phone and not have to wade through crap headers all the time.

WTF do I have to do to convince Spam Assassin to stop passing through those stupid friggin' emails with the one line sentence and .zip, .pif, .exe attached? And what *IS* that? Is it a virus? Is it some sort of spam? Whatever it is, it infuriates me because there are people out there that think of all these various lies and ways of fooling you into opening up the attachment. It's one thing for some virus to just spread, it's another for some asshole to be thinking up all these evil ways to con people. Whoever these people are they should have their knees broken.

Urgh. Spam, spam, spam, spam, spam, spam.
