XP Power Toys

I'm playing with the new XP Power Toys that I found on the Microsoft website. I've used TweakUI for years now to move my My Documents around and other tweaks and while I was grabbing the version for XP I saw some other nifty little apps as well.

The first is the pic above is the snapshot viewer. It's a little tray app that uses your web cam to take a picture every few minutes and can save it to a local drive or network place. It taught me that in Windows XP you can define an FTP drive or a WebDAV directory as network place and access it like a normal networked drive, which is also pretty neat. Put that on my "not bad" list of improvements for XP. It'll make uploading files like my camera photo snaps all that much more convenient.

The other Power Toy that I liked is the multiple desktop applet. This works like Linux where you can define multiple desktops which you can switch to on the fly. This is pretty cool as well. I'm going to try to use it to separate out "Communications" from "Work". In other words, IM and Emails will be on one desktop and the stuff I need for development will be on another - to cut down on the interuptions. I'll keep you posted.

I also downloaded some other free stuff as well like the MovieMaker 2 app and Wallpaper changer, but these aren't as neat as the other stuff.

Yes I know I'm about 2 years behind the curve on this. Sue me. I'm a late adopter when it comes to MS stuff. ;-)
